A fisherman's take on job searching
Career consultants hear the same repeated stories from new client’s:
There are no jobs out there
I am discriminated against
My resume is no good
My cover letter is awful
No one ever gets back to me
The answer is as equally consistent…" you are fishing in the wrong pond".
Job searching is very similar to a fishing expedition with both needing the following components:
Good intelligence (weather, tides, seasonal information etc.)
The right bait
The right tackle
Patience
Analysis 1 Fishing in the wrong hole
It is obvious to even a child that if you cast a line into a pond empty of fish, then you are wasting your time
Analysis 2 Fishing for flathead where there are only whiting
There may be plenty of fish in this pond, but it is useless because you won’t catch the fish that you want
Analysis 3 Fishing for a fish that only takes fresh bait, and you're using a solid lure
No chance again…do your research properly
Analysis 4 Fishing in a competition for a tagged fish when 500 were recently released into the pond
You have the right tackle, bait, fish type and yet you are simply overwhelmed by numbers
Analysis 5 as in Analysis 4 above
You walk away after half an hour and the person next to where you were sitting catches the tagged fish two hours later and wins $5,000
It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. Your career and job are SOOOOO! important to you and your family’s well being that it makes sense to conduct a job search using a professional case management process.
It doesn’t have to be this way, with ACMA providing a much better way to “fish for a job” based on research and analysis, job market statistics, occupational/vocational knowledge and decades of industry expertise.
