Don’t let your job run (RUIN) your life
In today’s busy world many people focus mainly on their job to the detriment of everything else.
While your career is an important component of any functioning person, it is only a part of a well-lived life.
COVID has caused many people worldwide to revaluate their lives from a more holistic perspective and this is one of the few “goods” caused by the pandemic.
Life Plans are not as silly as the concept might seem as it acknowledges that a lifespan has many stages, including the “up and downs”.
In my profession as a career coach, I am often asked by clients “what is the next step in my career”, when it is obvious that the real question should be “what is the next step in my life”.
If a person thinks that their career will sustain their life until they die, they are in for a rude awakening, probably when it is too late.
LIFE = FFFJ
FAMILY
FRIENDS

JOB
Note that this simple formula clearly demonstrates that a job is only PART OF A PERSON'S LIFE. If a person becomes obsessed with only one part of their life to the exclusion of the others, then they will not have a full and satisfying life to reflect on, particularly in their lonely twilight years.
“All work and no play makes Jack (Jill) a dull boy" is a proverb. It means that without time off from work, a person becomes both bored and boring. The exact origins of the phrase remain unclear, though it was recorded as early as 1659 (source Wikipedia).
The good news is that technology and changing employer attitudes now provide ongoing options to build a balanced work and play approach for many people.
The reality is that humans are by nature social creatures who rely heavily on other people for fulfilment and support structures.
