Post retirement careers
There is a large trend with retirement careers as the mass of Baby Boomers approaches retirement age. How can they continue being "alive" after their current career?
The economy and employment climate are driving a need for multiple jobs to survive...these are not necessarily full-time positions.
Retired people have the flexibility to work in multiple jobs over a given working week (this is called a Portfolio career).
The average stay for young employees is five years (they usually don't care about being vested in the company) and demand flexibility, daycare and perhaps telecommuting. Whereas the over 55 employee is much less demanding and stable.
Paid work is one option. Others are voluntary work and hobbies (we are all different).
The largest growing employment sector in Australia today is the 60 plus person. Many companies are actively sourcing mature age workers so there are plenty of options for the forward-thinking and motivated retiree.
